AS RARE AS I AM is an intimate portrait of Allyx Theus, whose lifelong love of climbing is tested by the biases and barriers women face in the sport. From the moment she first stepped into a climbing gym, Allyx noticed she was treated differently, and early on, she believed that skill and strength would earn her respect. But even as she grew stronger and mastered harder routes, a new challenge emerged: reconciling her muscular body with society’s expectations of what a woman “should” look like. The film follows Allyx as she learns to climb for herself and embrace the joy of the sport over the approval of others.
